The visit to the Rittal factory on the 23rd of May was a highly enriching and enjoyable experience for the PGPBA Batch 2013-2015. We were greeted at the reception by Ms. Priti Dave, Head – Marketing Communications, Mr. Dinesh AU, DGM HRA and several managers from the production division. As part of the Friedhelm Loh Group, Rittal has over 250 service partners, over 60 profitable subsidiaries and provides system and software consulting for a huge customer base, with Ericsson, Reliance, Schneider Electric, Mitsubishi, EATON and Siemens being some of their clients.
Rittal bases its success on certain foundational pillars that incorporate its values and mission- Firstly, harnessing the capability and cooperation of employees is treated as the key asset; Secondly, Viewing customers as partners, solving their problems by offering products that provide clear benefits to them; Thirdly, Proving to be quicker, better and using inspiration and creativity as a competitive advantage and Fourthly, Perfect mastery of daily business to secure a goal of developing long term and meaningful relationships on a partnership basis with suppliers and Lastly, focusing energies on design to deliver and develop cost efficiency while upholding a responsibility towards the environment.
To get the proceedings underway, we were introduced to the heads of product lines and various business divisions plus the key international accounts, Direct Base costumers through local key accounts and channel partners. Each of them briefly explained the various functions and operations of Rittal as a company while emphasising the part each division plays in the entire production process ranging from raw production to printing lines and assembly buffer and other intricacies from the suppliers to the various other accessories utilised.
While providing an overview and brief history of the company since 1961 of Rittal, the tenets of being ‘’faster, better, everywhere’’ were given emphasis with Rittal being an inventor and pioneer as the world’s leading systems provider for – Power distribution systems, Climate control, IT Infrastructure, Software and services, System accessories and Enclosures. To get a better conceptual understanding, we firstly explored the rationale behind the functioning of each of the business streams and the importance of the particular Plant that we had visited as a SBU or Standard Business Unit so that we grasped the idea behind the use of each of the processes better when we went from the showroom visit to the production floor.
Rittal offers a perfectly coordinated system platform and is supportive of innovative production, pioneering engineering solutions and global standardised services to accommodate the most diverse of requirements from its host of customers- industries ranging from plant and machinery engineering to automotives all the way to information technology. Rittal- Das System or The System has tried and tested expertise and confidence in providing high quality in the form of standardised products all over the world. Rittal makes use of its resources to spur research in implementing lean manufacturing processes and evolving standard operating procedures that maximise industry performance in infrastructure for cities, food and beverages, traffic systems, IT solutions and the processing industry.
As part of database management, Rittal believes in upholding logical and physical security. With total turnkey solutions for data centres meant mainly for simulation and analysis, the use of cold aisle containment, central air conditioning liquid based cooling units and closed door solutions, normalised with perforated rakes or a plain server for industrial grade and computing services. Rittal uses MCC or Motor Control Centres to handle bulk power up to 5500 mega watts. To customise products, the Work in Progress goods are moved to Modification Centres and not sold or distributed straight to the end customers from the Warehouses or Factory.
When we went into the factory, we had a guide who guided us through each of the product lines and explained the processes of Punching, Bending, Welding and Sundering. Also discussed were the elements of international certification for over 3500 patents. After the tour of the factory we took a break for lunch and then went back to the conference room for a group photograph. We bid farewell to the host of people who had come together to greet and help us enjoy a pleasant and informative Factory Education visit and tour.
