Mr. Patrick Bessler from the Department of PR and Communication, German Chamber of Commerce & Industry Japan graced the evening of 21st November 2013 with his presence to interact with excited students of the PGPBA Batch 2013-15. The evening session began with Mrs. Audrey D’Souza, Regional Director, IGCC introducing Mr. Patrick Bessler. Ms. Rosa Homburg, Programme Manager, IGTC Bangalore went on to highlight the rationale of the PGPBA course and how IGCC took up the initiative to set up the management training division – The Indo-German Training Centre. She also emphasised on how the German Dual Education System grooms management trainees and equips them for the real corporate world with the right mix of theoretical knowledge with practical training. The programme sought to provide an innovation friendly environment for skills development so as to influence and tap the growth opportunities of tomorrow in the corporate realm.
Mr. Patrick Bessler showed interest in understanding how the Industriekaufmann / Industriekauffrau* (industrial manager) certificate, jointly awarded by the German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) and the IGCC after completion of the 18 month course be useful to students to climb up the corporate ladder. Ms.Rosa Homburg elucidated that it is recognised all over Europe and given utmost value by German companies and educational institutions in Europe. The Bilateral Chamber with its large membership base and outstanding reputation worldwide have substantially helped spread the image of sheer excellence and an eye for precision in the German Brand.
The interaction touched upon various topics ranging from pay scales in the corporate sector in India to the differences in work culture between Germany and Japan, the importance of interning with a firm during graduation to the scope of employment opportunities for the students pursuing the PGPBA Programme in IGCC. With attrition rates being almost zero, Mrs. Audrey D’Souza said that students of IGTC would be given first preference whenever there were opportunities.
As the session progressed, the students of the PGPBA Batch 2013-15 introduced themselves in Deutsch with a colourful presentation -Vorstellung auf Deutsch. Learning of the German Language is an integral and compulsory part of their course. Mr. Patrick Bessler also introduced himself to the gathering in Deutsch. He was impressed and made a special mention of the efforts and enthusiasm that students put in to learn a foreign language. Being his first visit to India, he shared his experiences here and spoke of his work in Japan. He enunciated his role as scribe of the German Chamber of Commerce & Industry Japan. As the Editor of their magazine his work involved conducting interviews, handling press releases and writing articles for the website.
A lively interactive session and a group photograph brought the evening to a close.
